About ME

I am an award-winning Consultant Colorectal and Robotic Surgeon at Cambridge University Hospitals, where I also serve as Clinical Director for Digestive Diseases. I am an Affiliated Assistant Professor at the University of Cambridge and have developed a specialist practice in advanced minimally invasive and robotic colorectal surgery.
My main clinical interests are bowel and rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, complex pelvic floor conditions and minimally invasive colorectal surgery. I was the first colorectal surgeon in the East of England to become trained across multiple robotic platforms, with experience using both the CMR Versius and Intuitive da Vinci systems.
I have been closely involved in the development of robotic colorectal surgery in Cambridge. My pioneering work includes performing the first colorectal cancer resection using the CMR Versius platform and contributing to the world’s first combined robotic pelvic reconstruction using CMR Versius.
For me, innovation only has value if it improves patient care. Robotic surgery can offer enhanced visualisation, precision and access within the pelvis, helping surgeons perform complex operations through small incisions while maintaining the principles of safe, high-quality surgery.
Alongside surgery, I have extensive experience in colonoscopy and bowel cancer prevention. I am an accredited colonoscopist within the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP), where clinicians are required to meet rigorous national standards for quality and performance. I undertake both diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy, with a strong focus on early detection (optical diagnosis and A.I) and prevention of bowel cancer.
I completed my Doctorate in Philosophy (DPhil) at the University of Oxford, where my research focused on pelvic floor dysfunction. I then completed higher surgical training in London and Oxford before undertaking an international fellowship in robotic colorectal surgery in South Korea.
I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) of England and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). I am also a FRCS examiner, helping assess surgeons as they reach the completion of specialist surgical training.
My work has also been recognised with the Top Doctors Award 2023–2024.
As Clinical Director for Digestive Diseases at Cambridge University Hospitals, I provide senior clinical leadership across colorectal and general surgery and gastroenterology, with a particular interest in improving quality, safety, innovation and access to modern surgical care.
I also hold national leadership roles within UK colorectal surgery and contribute to the development of the specialty through education, professional leadership and international collaboration.
My approach to care is simple: combine specialist expertise, modern technology and evidence-based surgery with genuinely individualised treatment. I want every patient to understand not only what treatment is possible, but why it is the right option for them.

I specialise in advanced minimally invasive colorectal surgery, including laparoscopic and robotic techniques. I am trained across both CMR Versius and Intuitive da Vinci robotic platforms, allowing me to tailor the operative approach to the individual patient and procedure.

I am an accredited NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme colonoscopist and undertake diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy to rigorous national quality standards. My practice focuses on patient comfort, high-quality examination, early detection and prevention of bowel cancer.
